Concept Overview :

:::::::
Inter-Wactive Orchestra is an installation that
incorporates a sound performance with TV sets. Using 3 televisions, each
TV contains video footage of a person playing a different instrument.
At first, all of the TV monitors will show only static noise and then,
a conductor with a stick will physically hit the TVs to make the players
appear on each monitor. Each time a TV is hit, the player and instrument
will change, so the conductor can choose a choose instrument for each
TV or choose to have all the same. The video and music are not playing
at this stage. After the conductor chooses preferred instruments, he or
she needs to twist and adjust the antennas on each TV to set the synthesis
algorithms of the instruments and play. And the same time, the video will
start to play showing the players performing. In this way, the conductor
can spontaneously conduct the TV Symphony Orchestra.
When it is used as an interactive installation, it will allow three people
to create one musical composition in cooperation with each other. Each
person controls the antenna to create his or her own melodies. My hope
is that each player listens to the melodies that are being created by
the other players, and then tries to change their own melody to make better
harmony. The installation will not only generate a resonance of sounds,
but will create a resonance of minds between the three players.
